Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is seeking comments on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet prepared for a proposed addition to Rochester's sanitary sewer system. The EAW is open for public comment until Aug. 31, 2005.
The city of Rochester proposes installation of approximately 9,900 feet of 66-inch relief sanitary sewer. It would supplement the existing 48-inch sewer line, originally called the Main Trunk Line, which would remain in place. The relief sewer would be constructed in the Zumbro River corridor from the 13 = Street NW / North Broadway intersection to just east of the 3rd Avenue NW / 37th Street NW intersection.
The existing Main Trunk Line has a maximum capacity of approximately 37 million gallons per day. The supplemental line would have a maximum capacity of 53 million gallons per day. The proposed project would address inadequate capacity issues within the existing sewer service areas.
The EAW provides basic information about how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment. Interested parties may comment on the EAW during the 30-day public notice period from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, 2005. Written comments submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, become part of the public record.
The EAW and written public comments help to evaluate the proposed project's potential for significant environmental effects, and to determine if the project warrants an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review.
