St. Paul -- Veolia Environmental Services has proposed construction of a 72-acre landfill expansion on existing Veolia property in Wright County. The proposed expansion would be used for residential and commercial waste, as well as construction and demolition debris. It would be built on Veolia property east of the active industrial landfill at the Veolia Rolling Hills Landfill Facility in Monticello Township.
As part of the environmental review process for the project, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) prepared a Scoping Environmental Assessment Worksheet (SEAW) and a draft Environmental Impact Statement Scoping Decision Document for the project. The purpose of these documents is to identify which environmental issues will need to be addressed in a more detailed environmental review.
The documents are open for public comment through July 25. The MPCA has also scheduled a public meeting for July 9, 2012 at Rockford Township Hall, 3039 Dague Avenue SE in Buffalo, Minnesota. An open house begins at 6:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 7:00 p.m.
Comments on the SEAW must be submitted in writing the MPCA by 4:30 p.m. on July 25 to Nancy Drach, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, Minnesota 55151-4194, by email to email@example.com, or by fax to (651) 297-8683. To request a copy of the SEAW or draft EIS Scoping Decision Document or inquire about the environmental review process, contact Drach at 651-757-2317. The documents are also posted online at /oxpg691.
