St. Paul, Minn. - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet on a proposed sanitary sewer project in Chaska. This is the second part of an expansion that started in 2004. The public invited to comment on this EAW until Aug. 1, 2007.
Known as the Chaska West Interceptor, the proposal includes construction of approximately 17,000 feet of sewer lines from Chaska to Carver. The sanitary sewer extension will be able to carry an average of about 3.85 million gallons of wastewater per day, providing sanitary sewer service to existing and future developments to the city of Carver. Wastewater will be treated at the Blue Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant in Shakopee.
The EAW, a preliminary environmental review looking at how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment, is open to a 30-day public review and comment period. Comments on the Chaska West Interceptor EAW should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2007, to Barbara Conti, MPCA Environmental Review Section, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194, or by fax to 651-297-2343.
The MPCA will use these comments to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project and decide if an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review, is needed.
