Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) seeks comments on the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a proposal by Olmsted County Public Works. The county proposes building a third municipal solid waste combustor at its Olmsted Waste-to-Energy facility in Rochester. The third combustor, with a planned capacity of 200 tons per day, would operate in conjunction with the two existing 100 ton-per-day combustors.
The final EIS is will be available for public review on the MPCA Web site at hhref="/news/eaw/index.html beginning Monday, Nov. 6. Interested parties may submit comments on the EIS until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21, 2006. Copies are also available by contacting Project Manager Denise Leezer using the phone numbers and address listed below.
MPCA staff will discuss the final EIS, as well as responses to comments received during this additional 10-day public review period, with the agency's Citizens' Board in November. The board will determine the adequacy of the EIS during a special meeting on or about Nov. 28. Interested parties are invited to attend and may address the board at the meeting. Individuals on the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy project mailing list will be notified of the exact date, time, and location of the board meeting as well as receive all related board documents.
