Project Manager: Jim Sullivan, 651-297-1788 Information Officer: Nancy Miller, 507-280-3590 Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for a proposed swine feedlot in Waseca County. The EAW is open for public review and comment through July 18, 2006. Southridge Farms LLP proposes to build two 102-foot by 192-foot hog barns in Section 3 of Otisco Township. The barns would house a maximum of 4,800 wean-to-finish hogs (1,920 animal units). The proposal includes eight-foot deep concrete manure collection pits under each building. Manure would be removed annually and applied at agronomic rates to designated cropland. The EAW provides basic information about how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment. Interested parties may comment on the EAW during the 30-day public notice period from June 19 to July 18, 2006. Written comments submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, become part of the public record. The EAW and written public comments help to evaluate the proposed project's potential for significant environmental effects, and to determine if the project warrants an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review.
