Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment Worksheet and a draft air emission permit for the proposed expansion of Heartland Corn Products. Heartland Corn Products is an ethanol-producing facility located in Sibley County near Winthrop, Minn. Interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft EAW and the draft permit from Nov. 7 to Dec. 7, 2005.
The proposed expansion would increase the facility's ethanol production from 36.4 million to 99 million gallons per year. The corn processing capacity would increase from 13.2 to 36 million bushels per year.
An EAW helps to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects resulting from a project and to determine if an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review, is needed. Comments on the Heartland Corn Products draft EAW and draft air emission permit must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005.
