MPCA To Hold Public Meeting For Marathon Ashland's Proposed Air Emission Permit

St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has scheduled a public meeting to explain Marathon Ashland Petroleum's proposed air emission permit for its refinery in St. Paul Park, Minn. The meeting will be held in Newport on Tuesday, July 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Newport City Hall, 596 Seventh Ave. It will give the public the opportunity to share their concerns regarding the major amendment to Marathon's air emission permit. The public comment period for the proposed permit began April 21, and has been extended through Aug. 5, 2005. As required, the company has applied to the MPCA for an air emission permit necessary for it to make equipment changes so it can produce the new, cleaner, ultra low sulfur diesel fuel and gasoline mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Permits contain a wide range of requirements to minimize the impact of air emissions. Permit documents are available online at/news/data/index.cfm?PN=1 and scrolling to June 16. Copies of the 200 page permit will also be available for review at the Newport Public Library (405 Seventh Avenue) and the Newport City Hall.
