MPCA Schedules Public Information Meeting For Olmsted Waste-To-Energy Project

Project Manager: Denise Leezer 651-297-8236 Information Officer: Nancy Miller 507-280-3590 Toll-free: 1-800-657-3864 Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will hold a public information meeting from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, to discuss the draft Scoping Environmental Assessment Worksheet and draft Scoping Document for Olmsted County Public Works' Waste-to-Energy facility. The meeting will be held at University Center Rochester, 851 30th Avenue SE, Memorial Hall (MH) 223, Rochester. Olmsted County Public Works proposes to add a third municipal waste combustor at its Waste-to-Energy facility located on the east side of Rochester. The third combustor, with a planned capacity of 200 tons per day, would operate in conjunction with the two existing combustors that burn 100 tons per day. The draft Scoping Environmental Assessment Worksheet evaluates potential environmental issues related to the project, provides a brief analysis of each issue and identifies the topics to be examined in the Environmental Impact Statement. The second document currently on public notice is the draft Scoping Document, which also includes a description of the topics carried forward in the EIS as well as the plan for evaluating the potential impact for each identified topic. An EIS is an extensive environmental review examining the identified environmental impacts, economic and social issues and alternatives to the proposed project. The draft documents are on public notice from Monday, July 4, through Monday, August 8. Written comments will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 8. Written comments may also be submitted at the July 27 public information meeting. Copies of the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy documents will be mailed to interested parties upon written request. The documents are also available for review at the:
