Mesabi Nugget, LLC Proposed Project

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has drafted water and air emission permit amendments for the Mesabi Nugget, LLC to be located near Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota.

The Mesabi Nugget facility would be the first iron nugget production plant to be built. It would be constructed on a part of the site formerly occupied by the LTV Steel Mining Company taconite mining and processing facility. Iron nuggets produced by the facility will be approximately 96 to 98 percent iron and can be fed directly to an electric arc furnace (mini-mill) as well as conventional integrated iron and steel manufacturing facilities.
